A woman of the age of 24 went to the hospital having problems with dizziness and nausea. After her autopsy, they discovered that she was completely missing her cerebellum. The cerebellum, also known and the "little brain" is in charge of functions that have to do with voluntary movements and balance. The cerebellum is about 10% of the brain's total volume, but it has 50% of the brains neurons. Problems and injuries in the cerebellum can lead to severe mental impairment, movement disorder, epilepsies, or a fatal build-up of fluid.
The Midbrain
The midbrain is a part of the brain stem located above the pons and under the Thalamus. The function of the midbrain is associated with motor movement, particularly movement in the eye. I think you are able to live without your midbrain. In the brainstem, medulla oblongata controls respiratory functions and heart rate, which you can't live without. The pons is also responsible for respiratory function, which the body needs. Since the lower brainstem is responsible for more crucial function, it seems like you can live without the midbrain, only suffering from blurred vision.
